How old does the child have to be?
Must turn 3 or 4 on or before July 31 of the current school year. 5 year olds who do not turn 6 by December 31 of the current school year are also eligible to attend.
How do I register for Bear Cub Preschool?
Parents or legal guardians must complete the registration. Get started online or register in person at the East Stadium location.
What other forms or documents are needed to register?
All applications must include a certified birth certificate, a current immunization record, and proof of residency, such as a current driver’s license or utility bill. If you need to order a copy of the birth certificate and the child was born in Nebraska you can call 308-436-6500 for an application or order online at Vital Records . For all other states contact the vital records in the state they were born. You will have 30 days to turn in the birth certificate. Documents can be included with your online application or brought to the preschool.
How long is the preschool day?
Morning Sessions from 8:15-11:15 AM (3-year-olds)
Afternoon Sessions from 12:15-3:15 PM (3-year-olds)
Full Day (4-5 year-olds) 8:00 AM-3:00 PM
Extended day is available for an additional cost. Hours before school begins at 7:15 AM and ends the day at 4:15 PM. Families may select a preference for Full Day, AM, or PM sessions, but they cannot be guaranteed and will be determined by the Principal.
Where is it located?
For the 2024-2025 school year we are located under the East Stadium on 2nd Avenue between the high school and middle school. There is a sign and a playground out front! Roosevelt Site is located at Roosevelt Elementary 1306 9th Avenue.
Beginning with 2025-2026 school year both sites will relocate to the Scottsbluff Public Schools Education Center located at 2617 College Park.
Is there transportation?
No. A few of our students ride a small bus that is designed to support their needs but this is part of their IEP and not available to our regular education preschool students.
For the 2025-2026 school year, transportation from Roosevelt Elementary to the new SBPS Education Center site is being considered. Please indicate on your registration form if you would be interested in transportation from Roosevelt.
Is there before and/or after school care?
Beginning with the 2025-2026 school year the Scottsbluff Family YMCA will provide before and after school care on-site at the Scottsbluff Public Schools Education Center for preschool students. This care will be available for full-day and half-day students. Please indicate on your application if you are interested in the extended day option for your student.
What are the fees?
Our tuition is sliding scale based on income. This form is part of the registration packet and is also updated every August. Rates include a snack and lunch for full-day students. Your rate will be determined after all forms are submitted and you accept placement in our program. Scholarships may be available for families unable to qualify for other income-based assistance. For Head Start qualified students the tuition fees are paid in full through the federal Head Start program.

How many students are in a classroom?
The maximum is 20 per classroom with a teacher and a para, so at the most there is 1 adult per 10 students. Bear Cub Preschool has two paraprofessionals in each classroom.
Are teachers certified?
Yes, our teachers have Nebraska teaching certificates like all teachers in the district as well as early childhood endorsements. The paras have also been through a process for para certification.
When does the program start?
It follows the regular district calendar with just a few exceptions.
When are the fees due?
Tuition is due on the first of each month.
